  9. This  option  is  used to maintain current and historical share prices 
  10. of  securities  in  your  portfolio  data base.  Additionally, you may 
  11. record  market  index  data  such as the Standard and Poor's 500 index 
  12. for  graphic  analysis using the charting capabilities of the program.  
  13. Current/historical  price  and  index  data  are  recorded on a weekly 
  14. basis  and retained for the most recent 52 weeks.  The Sunday business 
  15. section  of  most  major newspapers lists all the information required 
  16. to maintain these records.

  18. When  you  select  the  "UPDATE  PRICES  HISTORY" option from the main 
  19. menu,  the  "UPDATE  PRICES  FOR"  menu  appears listing the following 
  20. options:

  45. These  options  allow  the  user  the  flexibility  to  perform weekly 
  46. updates  on  all  stocks  and  indexes,  selectively update individual 
  47. stocks  and  indexes,  and  backfill  historical  prices of individual 
  48. stocks and market indexes.

  53. Depending  on  the option selected you should be prepared to enter the 
  54. data listed in Tables 5-2 and/or 5-3.

  59. When  entering current and/or historical price data, the system checks 
  60. for  previous  entries  for  the  date  you are updating.  If you have 
  61. previously  entered  data  for  that date the system warns you of this 
  62. fact  and  allows you the option of either overwriting the old data or 
  63. retaining it.

  107. ALL STOCKS/INDEXES 1 WEEK
  108.  
  109. In  general  you  will  choose  this  option  to  perform  your weekly 
  110. updates.   This  option  provides  for  automatic  cycling through all 
  111. securities  in  your portfolio as well as all market indexes which you 
  112. are tracking.

  117. When  you  select this option you will enter the market date only once 
  118. and  the system will provide data entry screens for all securities and 
  119. market  indexes  you  are  tracking.   This  allows you to update each 
  120. security  and  index  without individually selecting them from a menu.  
  121. If  you  have  not  previously entered current and/or historical price 
  122. data  for a security in your portfolio, the system asks if you wish to 
  123. track  that security.  If you wish to track the price of that security 
  124. then  type  Y.  If not, type N and the system will proceed to the next 
  125. security in your portfolio.

  128. ONE STOCK 1 WEEK
  129.  
  130. This   option   is  used  to  update  individual  securities  in  your 
  131. portfolio.   After  selecting this option, you choose the security you 
  132. wish  to  update  from  a  menu.  As above, if you have not previously 
  133. entered  data  for  this  security, the system will ask if you wish to 
  134. track  this  security.   Answer  the  question  by  typing  Y or N and 
  135. proceed  with  data  entry   or  your  next  "UPDATE  PRICES FOR" menu 
  136. selection, respectively.

  139. ONE STOCK MULTIPLE WEEKS
  140.  
  141. In  general  this  option  is  used  to  backfill  multiple  weeks  of 
  142. historical  price  and  volume data for an individual security.  After 
  143. selecting  this  option,  you  choose  the security you wish to update 
  144. from  a menu.  You then enter the date for the first week of your data 
  145. and  proceed  with  data entry.  After entering and verifying the data 
  146. for  one  week,  the  system automatically increments the date for the 
  147. next  week  and requests that data.  The sequence is ended by entering 
  148. a backslash (\) in the weekly high data field.

  151. ONE INDEX 1 WEEK AND ONE INDEX MULTIPLE WEEKS
  152.  
  153. These  options  are  functionally  the  same as their counterparts for 
  154. stocks   except  that  you  select from among market indexes which you 
  155. have previously defined.

  157.  
  158. DEFINE A NEW MARKET INDEX
  159.  
  160. This  option  is  used  to define the name of a market index which you 
  161. wish  to  track  along  with  your  securities.   When you select this 
  162. option  a  data  entry  screen  will  be displayed requesting that you 
  163. enter  a  four character abbreviation for the market index and up to a 
  164. 20 character name.  Examples are listed in Table 5-4.

  180. DELETE AN INDEX  
  181.  
  182. This  option  is  used  to  delete a stock index record from your data 
  183. files  when  you  are   no  longer  interested in tracking that index.  
  184. When  you  select  this option, a menu listing all the indexes in your 
  185. data  files  will  be  displayed.  To delete an index  record,  select 
  186. the   index   you   wish  to  delete,  and confirm that your selection 
  187. is  correct.  If you accidentally select the wrong index, the deletion 
  188. process  can  be aborted by answering no to the question "Are you sure 
  189. you want to delete this index?"

  192. X-DIVIDEND HISTORY UPDATE  
  193.  
  194. This  option  allows  you  to  update  the  price  history  of a given 
  195. security   to   compensate   for   payment   of   an  X-Dividend.   As 
  196. distinguished  from ordinary dividends, payment of extraordinary   (X) 
  197. dividends  causes a devaluation of the market share price equal to the 
  198. amount  of  the  dividend  per  share.   If  the  price history is not 
  199. adjusted  for payment of an X-Dividend, a discontinuity of share price 
  200. would  appear  at  the record date of the X-Dividend when plotted over 
  201. time.

  203. After  selecting  the  "X-DIVIDEND PRICE UPDATE" option from the menu, 
  204. you  will select the security for which the X-Dividend was paid, enter 
  205. the  record  date,  and  enter  the  amount  of  dividend  per  share.  
  206. Historical  prices  on or before the record date will be adjusted on a 
  207. percentage   basis.    You   should   be  aware  that  this  does  not
  208. automatically  create  a record of dividend income received.   Use the
  209. dividend  income  option  from  the  main  menu to record any dividend
  210. income actually received by you.
